The latest and greatest technology and conveniences are standard in today’s limos. And yet it’s all in the appearance. It is another piece of evidence (as if it were needed) that BMW does not care if you don’t like its current aesthetic. The M3 stirred controversy, the iX was just bizarre, and the i7 is a step forward in the field’s evolution. On to the discussion!

To clarify the i7, let us take a step back. The new 7 Series looks like this. Whereas Mercedes produces gas or diesel S-Classes and a new electric limousine (the EQS) in a completely different body, BMW is sticking with the tried-and-true methods of the past. Create a single vehicle and sell it both with and without batteries. Therefore, the 7 Series may be ordered with a straight six, a V8 (sadly, not a V12), or a fully electric i7. The only 7s arriving in the UK are plug-in hybrids, and this i7 will each arrive with its own charging cord. Only in the United States and China are the straight-six or V8 engines available without spark plugs.

Meanwhile, a brand-new diesel engine is on its way to Europe. With a stated WLTP range of 367 to 388 miles and an extremely thin battery (cell height of only 110 mm), the i7 xDrive60 is a serious contender in the luxury plug-in hybrid market. The car’s range should be more than 300 miles under typical conditions. When the battery is at its optimal temperature (which significantly impacts range), a dedicated 5.5 kW electric circulation heater helps maintain that temperature.

The maximum power output is 313 horsepower at the rear wheels and 258 hp at the front axle. Both driving units’ combined maximum power and torque are 544 horsepower and 745 Newton-meters. The BMW i7 xDrive60 can go from zero to sixty-two miles per hour in 4.7 seconds if its specifications are met.

BMW claims the i7’s combination charging device can provide up to 195 kW of DC power and 11 kW of AC power for recharging the battery. At the high-power charging station, this is said to add 106 miles (WLTP) of range in only 10 minutes.

The new BMW i7 is a hulking executive car built to transport the affluent and powerful in relative quiet. Supersized. Over 5 feet, 5.5 inches in length. Exact measurements reveal a 130 mm increase in length (5,391 mm), a 48 mm increase in width (1,950 mm), and a 51 mm increase in height (1,544 mm). BMW has tested the Theater Screen system that is the centerpiece of the i7’s interior, thanks to these proportions. In addition, BMW has created and crash-tested a new option for executive film fans on the go, having decided that individual devices stuck to the back of the front seats is an outdated solution to supplying media to wheel passengers (and that it was not as prevalent an optional extra even as the company would have liked).
