Luckily for this purpose, there’s one car that does stand head and shoulders above the rest – and it’s a pretty high bar. Here’s why the 2022 GT is the best McLaren out there, and why you’ll want to keep it on your radar.
Specs That Make the ’22 GT the Best
Just a decade ago, there was only one McLaren to choose – and granted, it was a fine car. But now, the portfolio is larger, to everyone’s benefit.
With Spiders and 520s and all the great McLarens out there, picking a winner is tough – but the 2022 GT came roaring in to clinch the top, for a few simple reasons.
To understand, let’s start from the ground up.
The 2022 GT is simple and sleek – a slight change from their otherwise futuristic and aerodynamics-grabbing other models. But for all its understated elegance, the GT’s performance is on par with – and exceeds – some of its sister cars.
HotCars agrees, explaining, “Even with all the added luxury and amenities that the 2022 GT has, it is no slouch when it comes to performance. After all, it is still a supercar at heart – that heart being a 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8. This powertrain has an output of 612 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. With those kinds of numbers, it still allows for the graceful McLaren to rocket to 60mph from a standstill in only 3.2 seconds.
In comparison, the performance oriented McLaren 720S does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. Although the GT is slightly slower than the 720S, it is still a mighty impressive number given that the GT has not gone to the aero and weight-saving extremes that McLarens like the 720S have.”
The sound of those 612 horses rumbling under that classy hood cement the GT’s place in one of McLaren’s best performing cars, but it’s the overall package that takes the win.
The Driving Experience
Unlike other cars in its class, the GT was designed to be driven. Instead of sacrificing comfort or driver features to counterbalance on cornering or lighten the load, the GT blends agility and performance with driver enjoyment.
From inside the driver’s seat, it’s relatively quiet and really fun to drive, but you’ll still leave other drivers in the dust. The 2022 GT is proof that you don’t have to strip a vehicle to its supercar bare bones to make it a mean lean growling machine.
McLaren’s success with the GT proves that the company is capable of doing more than dominating on the racetrack, and it’s a promise of things to come as the offered models increase by the year.
