After Winning An Eighth Championship, Lewis Hamilton Declares: I’ll Always Be With Mercedes

In his pursuit of a career-high eighth Formula One World Championship, Lewis Hamilton has made it plain that he has no plans to retire from racing “any time soon.”

The 37-year-old Hamilton just completed his 300th Grand Prix start, adding to his already impressive list of accomplishments in Formula One, which includes the most pole places (103) and triumphs (103) of all time and tying Michael Schumacher for the most championships (7).

Despite coming so close to winning the title in 2021 and being unable to fight for overall honors this season due to Mercedes’ problems, the Briton thinks he is in prime condition and still has plenty of want for further success.

Hamilton asked about his intentions beyond 2023 and if he has discussed them with Mercedes, “For years, we’ve been going round, upwards and downwards with stories of retiring and halting.” Since I put so much effort into maintaining my health, I am experiencing the best state of health I have ever been in. I like my work too much to give it up anytime soon. My ultimate goal was to be in Mercedes’s company. Our relationship has endured for so long gives me great satisfaction. We’re on the cusp of many very good things, not just in the sport but in life. There’s a lot to do that has to be accomplished as a group, and I want to be a part of it.

After starting 300 races in Formula One, Lewis Hamilton had cause for celebration

There’s no doubt that Mercedes and I will remain together till the end of our days. In the future, I may make a decision based on the assumption that “I can race for a bit longer.”

So, Hamilton is focused on adding to his collection of world championships in the future. Still, he also feels a heavy pressure to “elevate” those around him and leave an imprint via his Mission 44 foundation.

Regarding the responsibility ahead and what it may mean to succeed, Hamilton said, “For sure, it’s an issue. However, profiting from another World Cup is just my usual business. I’ve gone into every one of them with the enthusiasm of a first-timer, and the feeling of winning the World Championship is so unique and special. After all, given that no driver in recorded history has broken the seven-hour mark, you should give it your best go. But I guess as you get older, you realize that the journey is a vital part, and the journey that you do with all of the people you bring with you, all of the people that you seek to uplift.

With the work we’re doing with Mission 44 – there’s a much wider picture to it – there’s a potential to elevate many individuals, not just on your team. However, from a purely selfish standpoint, the pursuit of yet another world championship remains. What an honor it will be to contribute in that way to the success of our group.
