ACR Accreditations

ACR Mission

“To serve patients and society by maximizing the value of radiology, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and medical physics by advancing the science of radiology, improving the quality of patient care, positively influencing the socio-economics of the practice of radiology, providing continuing education for radiology and allied health professions and conducting research for the future of radiology.”

What Does It Mean for a Facility to be Accredited by the ACR?

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards. Through a peer-review evaluation and image quality & procedure assessment by board-certified radiologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field, facilities are eligible to become accredited.

The program also takes personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs into consideration. A comprehensive report is made for the practice, including all findings and recommendations for improvement.

The ACR accredits facilities in: breast ultrasound, computed tomography, stereo tactic breast biopsy, ultrasound, and radiation oncology.

When you choose an ACR-accredited facility, you are guaranteed that:

– Your hospital, clinic or health center has voluntarily gone through a rigorous review process to be sure it meets nationally-accepted standards

– The personnel are well qualified, through education and certification, to perform and interpret your medical images and administer your radiation therapy treatments

– The equipment is appropriate for the test or treatment you will receive, and the facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines

As a patient, you have a say in who provides your health care and where you receive it. A core element of the ACR’s mission is to maximize the quality and safety of patient care by providing the resources to help you make the best and most informed decisions.
